Entrails: Human decay

A few months ago I reviewed Entrails’ first demo “Reborn”, and now we’re treated to another proof of talent from the Swedes. I am pleased by this release tempo, and one can only hope they can keep it up – especially now that they’ve scored a (very deserved) record deal. A full-length release is coming up during the spring of 2010, and I expect of course the sophomore to hit the stores next winter. I’ll be mighty disappointed otherwise. And so will you. Unless you suck.
In short, this demo sports the same kind of groovy and meaty death metal as its predecessor, and the same twisted and dark atmosphere is still present. Chunky riffs and mostly mid-tempo drumming roll along like bulldozers on a pulverizing parade through a barren field filled with skulls of the undead, making satisfying cracky noises while hell-infested growls of the blasphemous and gravelly kind snarl for the dark spirits to join the bone-crushing tour.
The tunes are still catchy as a fishing line with Captain Hook riding it, and the gloomy mood is brought forth even more by synths and samplings that carry a distinct 80’s horror movie vibe. Entrails aren’t inventing anything new, far from it, but they’re doing hell of a sweet job at writing kick-ass death metal songs that you can’t possibly not dig. Unless you suck.
The Dismember cover I could’ve lived without, nothing wrong with it except that the original is better – and why record a cover if you’re not bringing anything new to the table? Playing covers that are blueprinted from the originals live is not wrong by any means, but why record them? Ah well. I hope they scratch it from the full-length. Which you all will buy of course, unless you… yeah, you know.
